Rural Communities
South Carolina’s Lowcountry is home to crucial aspects of the American economy, both on the coast and inland. While attention has been given to coastal communities, our rural constituents have been subjected to overdevelopment, a lack of access to federal funding, and inattentiveness from politicians who claim to represent their best interests, but fail to empower rural communities to build local wealth and foster community-driven solutions.
The Lowcountry’s rural communities deserve to be championed in Congress and provided the requisite support to thrive. Under Nancy Mace, this is not happening. She consistently votes against pro-rural legislation such as the CHIPS Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and Inflation Reduction Act. The $24 billion in rural-specific funding from these bills helped provide rural communities in the Lowcountry with benefits like broadband access, but more progress is needed.
If elected to Congress, I am prepared to leverage the success of the Biden-Harris administration by securing millions in federal funding to empower rural communities toward achieving self-reliance and generational wealth.
I plan to champion rural communities through initiatives such as:
Funding for attainable and elderly living housing
Funding to strengthen water table infrastructure
Achieving universal broadband across the rural Lowcountry, as championed currently by Rep. Clyburn
Incentives and grants for agriculture, forestry, farming, and renewable energy projects to support rural economic self-reliance
Fight for increased funding for public rural schools and healthcare facilitiesÂ
To further facilitate these efforts, I will create a line of communication with rural communities to provide constant capacity-building and grantmaking assistance. From Berkeley and Dorchester Counties to Beaufort and Jasper Counties, our rural communities deserve more, they deserve Michael B. Moore for SC-01.
